The daughter of Paul Whitehouse appeared in court accused of possessing an offensive weapon.
Frances Whitehouse, 19, of St Aubyns, Hove, is alleged to have been in possession of a 2ft wooden axe handle at Kingsway, Hove, on April 7.
Janet Turner, prosecuting, applied for the case to be adjourned for the charge to be reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service. Brighton magistrates adjourned the case and Whitehouse was bailed until May 2.
The teenager was arrested last Thursday night near her home after a 999 call was made to police.
