Albion aim to show again that they can live with the best in the Third Division.
Northampton are the only team in the top nine to have beaten the Seagulls in the League at Withdean this season.
Leaders Swansea are the only other top nine side to have toppled them home or away, so promotion-pushing Peterborough know they have their work cut out in tonight's sell-out showdown.
Indifferent results against those lower down, especially at Withdean where 30 points have been dropped, explains why Albion, 13th but undefeated for 11 games, have been unable to sustain a promotion challenge of their own.
Manager Micky Adams said: "It has been a frustrating season in those terms. We haven't lost to Peterborough in three League and Cup meetings, and we have taken four points off Rotherham and Barnet as well.
"Darlington couldn't beat us and Swansea was different, because we had a depleted side when we lost there."
Four low-scoring draws in a row have wrecked Albion's late assault on the play-offs, but Adams is anticipating a more open affair against Posh.
"They are coming here knowing three points will take them into an automatic promotion spot. It's a massive incentive for them, so I would think they will come here and attack us.
"That will be a nice change for us, because not too many teams have done that lately. When sides have sat behind the ball we have found it very difficult to break them down."
Peterborough, spearheaded by former Premiership pair Andy Clarke and Jason Lee, have not beaten the Seagulls in their last seven meetings.
Boss Barry Fry admitted: "It will be very difficult for us. Brighton are the form team at the moment.
"They have already beaten us fairly and squarely 3-0 in an FA Cup replay, when we were very poor. It was men against boys that night.
"We are playing with a lot more spirit, shape and organisation now and we have got to continue that. It's a massive game for us, no doubt about it.
"If we win our three remaining matches then we go up automatically, which is a fantastic position to be in considering how far away we were a while ago."

ALBION still have 500 tickets for Saturday's final away game at rock-bottom Shrewsbury.
The Seagulls have sold 1,500 so far and the rest will remain on sale until Friday.
Albion fans cannot gain admission to Gay Meadow on the day of the match.
All available tickets have been sold for the last fixture of the season against next-to-bottom Carlisle at Withdean on May 6.
Carlisle have requested their ten per cent entitlement, but any unsold away tickets will be re-released to Seagulls supporters next week.
