Coronation Street barmaid Liz McDonald's dress, signed photos of the Spice Girls and a hankie from Cilla Black will help buy a new school playground.

The dress worn by actress and fitness guru Bev Callard behind the bar at the Rovers Return is just one of a stunning array of showbiz memorabilia to be auctioned.

A host of celebrity goodies will go under the hammer to help raise the £10,000 to pay for a new playground at Rustington County Primary School.

At the moment pupils have nowhere to play football without the danger of windows being smashed.

The Friends of the school in North Lane, Rustington, came up with the fund raising idea of a celebrity auction and set to work phoning up stars. Now they have a huge list of signed photos and memorabilia for which bids are now being invited.

Among the items are signed photos of footballer David Beckham, the Spice Girls, the cast of Friends, Carol Smilie, Phillipa Forrester, John Parrott and top chef Jamie Olliver.

Books signed by Ainsley Harriott and Delia Smith have also been donated together with a drumskin signed by Status Quo.

A tie worn by Fred Dinenage, a signed book by Carol Vorderman, a photo and a hankie signed by Cilla Black and a signed photo of Muhammad Ali are also on offer.

The auction will take place on Saturday but organisers will keep the bidding open until June 30.

Sally Brackpool, organiser, said:"We are urging anyone who would like to make a bid on any of the items to get in touch with the school and put in an offer."
