It is accurate to describe the latest fiasco over the Preston Park restoration work as a scandal (Opinion, June 30).
It was in September 1996 that Argus headlines announced the lottery windfall, awarded so the park could be restored to its former splendour.
Apart from the planting of some trees two winters ago, nothing has been done. And yet Alan Griffiths, director of environmental services, has at various times tried to reassure me plans were progressing.
I was told 46 new benches have been purchased and lamps would be replaced with new vandal-proof globes. So what happens to these items now the scheme is on hold?
I am certain had the people at the Town Hall involved on this project been employed in the private sector, they would have received their P45s long ago. How come we have to tolerate such ineffective staff? It is a disgrace.
