The car addicts whine on, although they can't decide if petrol or fares are pricier. Because they don't pay for the resulting pollution, congestion, land-take, law-breaking, noise and casualties, they don't care.

That is the real world of 'carmageddon'. But fewer car purchases, new drivers and petrol stations, with more unwanted cars dumped, show that motoring is on the way out.

Climate change, caused by energy waste such as excess traffic, is taking its revenge.

Our weather is now drought combined with flash floods every few weeks and rising sea levels.
