Recent letters seem to have rounded on Brian Phillips from Transport 2000 like a pack of bloodhounds.
In England, more children are killed and injured per mile walked or cycled than virtually anywhere else in western Europe.
It is also conveniently forgotten that motorists are hugely subsidised by the taxpayer.
Despite rises in fuel duty and other taxes, this money does not cover the huge amounts spent, for example, clearing up crashes, increased NHS costs and environmental damage.
Like the cruelty of the fox hunt, isn't it time we banned this carnage?
Civilised streets and transport choices for all, not just for car drivers, would not only be cheaper in the long run but would also improve our quality of life.
