Brighton Bears have added a touch of Bourdeau to their squad.

Canadian Micah Bourdeau has become their first new signing and will be joint-captain Michael Brown's new back court partner.

The 6ft 3in point guard averaged 19 points per game in the All Canadian League for Western Ontario last season, the same league Bears recruited Jan Trojanowski from.

Head coach Mark Dunning is delighted with his first summer signing whom he reckons can toughen up his side.

"Micah gives me plenty of options. He is an intelligent player who can score from outside as well as driving to the basket," said Dunning.

"I believe he can also control our offense very effectively. He has outstanding vision and will bring a toughness that we lacked in certain areas last season."

Club owner Romek Kriwald says there will be more new faces before the new season starts at the end of September.

Bears are committed to rebuilding their squad after Charles Claxton, Lormont Sharp and Jon Gaines were shown the door at the end of last season.

Trojanowski has refused new terms and is expected to sign for a Polish club, but joint-captain Daniel Hildreth and James Brame have re-signed along with Brown who has agreed a two-year contract.

Kriwald said: "We haven't rushed into signing new players because we want to ensure that the balance of the team is correct, especially as new players have had to be signed.

"I know that Mark has two or three other players in mind already, so I expect the squad to really shape up by the end of this month.

"I have watched Micah and I like what I see, I think that we will have a very strong back-court next season and I hope we can match it in other areas."
