Newhaven is not a suitable site for an incinerator as recently reported (Argus, July 5). Nowhere is suitable.
No-one wants a six-storey plant with a enormous chimney spewing out toxic pollution over a ten-mile radius in their backyard.
The House of Commons Environment Committee on contaminated land admits there is very little toxicological knowledge about the long term impacts of low levels of exposure to chemicals.
What we want is an alternative solution.
Intensive recycling has been achieved in other countries and is also by far the cheapest solution. An in-depth study and comprehensive analysis of the cost implications of the alternatives is needed before it is too late.
