Not one of the three designs for the proposed new Brighton library has anything to commend it.

All are tired, pathetic old re-treads and a once in a century opportunity is being thrown away. Brighton deserves far better. In an era when spectacular new design is springing up all over the country it looks as if we'll be getting the same old municipal rubbish.

You have done it again Brighton. You have blown a magnificent opportunity to give us a magnificent modern building. Something really spectacular that would last for centuries.

Instead, all we will get is a rehash of 20th century drab.
