The recent letter about the United Europe drew attention to historic similarities between Britain and the New World (Opinion, July 7).

American Indian and buffaloes were massacred by old European settlers, whereas Britons in an earlier era were occupied by the Vikings, then the Roman Empire and its currency.

There is no written constitution, while partner nations are administered by a dubious unelected bureaucracy known as the European Commission.

There has never been a proper referendum put before the electorate on the subject of joining a Federal United States of Europe and loss of the pound will lead to a federal Europe by stealth.
