The writer of the letter suggesting petrol should rise to £2 per litre, pensioners should not drive cars and only businesses or the emergency services should be allowed unrestricted use of the roads (Opinion, July 12) obviously does not live in the real world.
He or she obviously doesn't realise how many people work unsocial hours, including shop workers, street cleaners, dustmen and many more.
Many people would give up their cars if there was reliable and inexpensive public transport in place.
