Micky Adams will today step up his hunt for a target man as Albion return to work at their Falmer training base.
The Seagulls boss was meeting chairman Dick Knight over the weekend to discuss the chances of bringing in reinforcements ahead of the Nationwide League division three opener, at Southend United on August 12.
Midfielder Steve Melton will also have been mentioned in their head-to-head, with Adams keen to offer the former Nottingham Forest youngster a contract if finances allow.
Adams said: "Dick and I have already had a long chat and I've decided what targets we should go for. He has pursued that while I've been away and I'll pick up the pieces on Monday or over the weekend.
"Steve Melton has done as well as he could have done. He has settled in nicely, he has shown his quality on tour and I'll be sitting down and talking to him. Finances will dictate what happens."
Adams saw his men complete their three-game trip with a 1-0 win at Athlone Town on Friday night, with Paul Brooker's cross forcing an 87th-minute own goal from Gordon Brett.
It was a pleasing end to a gruelling week, which featured some tough training sessions at the squad's rural retreat in Ballygar.
The 21 players on tour were all given a decent chance to shine, but Adams is ready to start making some serious decisions as he builds towards Saturday's trip to Bognor, followed by the home game with Sheffield Wednesday a week later.
He said: "The tour was handled well and we picked things up throughout the week. I ran the legs off them on Friday morning but they went out and did it in the correct manner at Athlone.
"We've got a lot of work to do on the training pitch between now and Saturday. At the minute they are covering a lot of miles and doing a lot of physical work.
"We'll be trying to get a bit of pattern of play this week and settle the side down in readiness for the 12th."
Gary Hart and Darren Freeman rejoined the squad today having missed the Irish trip.
Paul Watson, who produced a couple of impresisve displays on tour before suffering a groin injury at Galway, is also set to return to training.
Warren Aspinall, who was keen for a more permanent deal, has been offered another month of contract, which will take him into the opening weeks of the new season.
Adams sends an Albion XI to Langney Sports tomorrow night in the Roy Hayden Trophy.
