DataKeeper 3.0 provides a universal back-up solution which claims to work with almost any data storage peripheral, network drive, hard drive, Zip or Jaz drive or floppy disk.
The software watches every file on your computer.
As changes are made to those files, the alterations are automatically logged and saved as a back-up in case of system failure.
The software installed easily although I had concerns about giving it access to my computer registry files.
It has some major shortcomings because it does not support international extended character types in filenames.
Despite claims to support any kind of data storage, it had some problems recognising my Zip drive as a suitable repository for back-up data.
DataKeeper will not solve all back-up problems but in certain cases it could prove useful.
However, the compressed file format it uses to store back-ups is a potential cause for concern.
DataKeeper runs on any 486 and higher PC running Windows 95/98.
