Firework displays over Brighton's Palace Pier are to continue for the rest of the summer despite a flood of complaints from pet owners.
But a compromise has been reached between the pier's management and town centre animal-lovers, and future displays will be quieter.
It follows complaints that loud bangs were sending pets crazy and prompted one dog to chew up carpets and damage doors at a seafront house.
A "firework watch" has been set up on behalf of the pet owners by animal lover Rena Collins, who lives in Dorset Gardens, close to the pier.
She will monitor the noise every Saturday and tackle the pier management if she gets any complaints about the noise disturbing pets.
The displays, from a barge moored close to the eastern side of the pier for ten minutes at 10pm every Saturday throughout July, have been enjoyed by thousands on the pier and seafront.
An estimated 10,000 watched the short display last Saturday. They will continue throughout next month with a double display on August 26 and 27, at 10pm.
Marie Henley, marketing manager for the pier, said: "The displays have been very popular and we have received good feedback from those who have watched them.
"They are adding to the atmosphere of Brighton on Saturday nights.
"We have reduced the bangs following complaints from pet owners and the emphasis will now be on colourful fireworks."
Rena Collins added: "We don't want loud bangs that remind us of the Blitz."
Anyone suffering noise problems from the displays can call her on 01273 699500.
