Albion's relentless search for a target man has taken another twist.
They must decide whether to pay the asking price for an un-named player after being knocked back by two more clubs.
Manager Micky Adams revealed: "We have made three enquiries, but we have been told by two clubs that the players are not for sale.
"One of them is with a Scottish club and the other with a club in our division.
"Now we are pursuing another centre forward.
"We've had a discussion with his club, so we know the sort of figures they are after."
Albion have already had £100,000 bids rejected this summer for Bristol Rovers' Bobby Zamora and Steven Howard of Northampton.
Meanwhile, Stephen Melton was confirmed as Adams' sixth signing of the summer yesterday after a medical.
The 21-year-old former Nottingham Forest and Stoke midfielder is relieved to have found a club. "I am happy to stay in the game and play pro football," Melton said.
"Hopefully I can build on this platform and prove my worth to Brighton."
Melton rejected offers of trials from promoted Rotherham and Mansfield to team up again with Adams, his reserve team boss at Forest.
"I know the way Micky works and I got on well with him at Nottingham," said Melton.
"I like his honesty. He treats everyone the same and you get a fair crack of the whip."
Melton will play a part in tomorrow's first team friendly against Bognor at Nyewood Lane (3pm).
Albion's main injury worries at the moment are Warren Aspinall (foot) and Rod Thomas (knee), although rookie reserve striker Danny Marney faces minor cartilage surgery.
Matt Russell, who went on the Seagulls' tour of Southern Ireland, is not expected to play against them for Bognor tomorrow.
The ex-Horsham YMCA marksman and PE teaching student is currently on holiday.
Adams said: "We like what we have seen, but he is going to pursue his university course. We have told him he is more than welcome to come in and train with us during his breaks."
