The traditional business suit, condemned as a 'tyranny' by the Prime Minster last month, may not be as close to extinction as some people anticipate.
Contrary to the perception that the younger generation is regarded as the biggest advocate of the new dressed-down economy, more than two-thirds of students would prefer to wear a suit to work.
The research, conducted by Get Real, student brand managers across 24 UK universities, also showed students do not see the internet as an appealing career option.
The majority of students (64 per cent) still aspire to work at city investment bankers or for global blue-chip consumer companies.
The findings support a recent MORI survey into the nation's opinion of the dot com industry, which revealed 93 per cent of people in the internet industry said they didn't know or didn't care about the subject.
The new survey showed that although 97 per cent of the student population regularly use the internet and will continue to do so, only 15 per cent find the possibility of working for a dot com start-up company an appealing career option.
