Two teenagers had a lucky escape when their inflatable dinghy drifted out to sea.
The Coastguard and beach office staff in Worthing went into action when they received a call from a member of the public concerned about the youngsters' safety.
The 14-year-olds had floated half a mile out to sea just off the Aquarena when they were spotted shortly after 4pm yesterday and rescued.
A warning was today issued by the town's foreshore manager, Mike Colliss, to youngsters and parents to take care during the school summer holidays.
Mr Colliss said: "Children should always tell their parents where they are going to be and they can always call the beach office and tell us where they are going to be.
"It was fairly routine to call out the Coastguard first, who then would have called the lifeboat if needed.
"The message is not to get out of your depth and be careful at all times."
Anyone who wants any more advice should call Mr Colliss on 01903 238977.
