Detectives have launched a murder inquiry after a woman was found stabbed to death at a flat in Bognor Regis.
The body of the victim, a 42-year-old taxi driver, was discovered yesterday.
Neighbours said police suddenly sealed off the normally busy residential road as an ambulance was escorted to the murder scene.
Today the flat in Wellington Road was still under police guard.
A red taxi was parked in the driveway of the property.
But staff at Crown Taxis said no one was available to talk about the death of one of their drivers.
A neighbour of the couple who lived at the flat said: "I used to see the wife regularly driving a taxi.
"But I only knew the chap who lived there to say hello to in passing."
Today a Sussex Police spokeswoman said that a 52 year old man had been arrested in connection with the Wellington Road death and was being questioned.
A post mortem examination was being carried out on the victim's body later today.
Wellington Road is one of the busiest roads in Bognor and is a popular short cut to the town centre from the west of the resort.
The murder scene is only 500 yards away from the block of sheltered flats in Victoria Drive where 89-year-old Hilda Tizzard was found strangled nearly two years ago after a burglary.
Two men were later jailed for life for her murder.
