It is with great disgust that I read of the national ME Association disbanding its local groups and demanding local funds be transferred into its own bank account. Our local group, run from Brighton, provides professional support for many very ill and often misunderstood people.
It works on their behalf with the health authorities and health professionals to improve the path of a vulnerable section of society. It raises its money locally either by the hard work of its supporters or from generous donation by local businesses and organisations.
These funds are used to benefit the members with its support and information service, extending awareness and improving provision. Local money should be spent on local issues to support local people. This should never end up in the pot of a national association.
