I am absolutely horrified at the proposal to move the Princess Royal Hospital's accident and emergency department to Brighton. The chances of survival for any elderly person in the Haywards Heath area suffering a severe stroke or heart attack would be considerably lessened if they had to make, what in the circumstances, would be a long journey.
Similarly, even the skill and dedication of the excellent paramedics may fail to save anyone suffering a cerebral haemorrhage or the victim of a road accident with severe head injuries.
Patients who failed to receive adequate early care would require more intensive nursing later, using valuable resources and taking up the time of already overworked consultants, doctors and nurses.
