The £4.5 million a year West Sussex County Council Social Services will realise through its proposal to transfer some of its residential homes to the private sector will all be re-invested in providing more services for more older people.
The services - which will be more flexible and responsive - are designed to help older people retain their independence and peace of mind in their own homes. Local and national research shows this is what people want. It is also in line with Government policy.
Because the money will be re-invested, the recent article on proposed county council cuts to places in OAP homes (Argus, July 13) may have inadvertently misled readers into thinking the council will be saving £4.5 million a year.
