In case there was any misinterpretation of the statement I made at the policy and resources committee meeting on July 12, 2000, the thrust of my argument was that in Brighton and Hove we are fortunate in having a comprehensive network of commercially-run local bus services. The Brighton and Hove Council-supported services amount to less than five per cent of the network.
While we regret the constraints on our budget did not allow us to provide financial support for all of the services we would have wanted, this action does not undermine the excellence of the Metro and other services in the town. We remain committed to promoting the use of public transport where appropriate for the journey being made.
