Brighton Bears have gone to the Wahl as they continue to rebuild their squad.

The latest addition to their ranks is 6ft 8in Canadian Dave Wahl who has signed a one-year contract and will be heading to Sussex at the end of the month in time for the start of Bears' pre-season camp on September 1.

Wahl played for Simon Fraser University and coach Mark Dunning sees him as the ideal replacement forJan Trojanowski who failed to agree terms and is likely to be playing in Poland next season.

Wahl averaged 13.6 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game last season. His inside game is more than matched by his three point shooting accuracy at 46.5 per cent and the fact that he also led his team in steals.

Hiting 33 from 71 from the perimeter last season is an indication that Bears can expect Wahl to pose a threat from inside and out. It also fits in well with Dunning's quest for versatile players who can work with a more varied range of offensive options.

Wahl is Bears' second major signing of the close season following their capture of Canadian point guard Micah Bordeau as new captain Michael Brown's back court partner next season.

And last week the club revaled that former Olympic gold medal winner Tessa Sanderson had taken a stake in the Bears.

Owner Romek Kriwald said: "We have been able to announce some exciting new signings and Dave certainly comes into this category.

"A big guy who can shoot the ball is always going to benefit our team whilst giving opposing defenders some tough decisions to make."
