Nigel Baker of Friends of the Earth, who suggests banning the car and travelling everywhere by bicycle (Opinion, July 24) obviously does not live on this planet.
If everyone worked within Cycling distance I would agree, but this is not the case.
To get to my work by public transport involves a bus and a train and walking considerable distances. Assuming connecting trains are on time, the journey takes nearly two hours. Cycling would take about an hour and a half.
My car gets me there in 20 minutes. No contest, Mr Baker.
