In 1995 Stelios Haji-Ioannou was given a cool £5 million by his father and told to go and make a name for himself.

Five years later he is head of easyJet and has transformed air travel in Britain by offering some of the cheapest flights around.

People such as students and the elderly who before could never afford to fly are now regularly jetting off all over Europe for their holidays.

The ripples created by easyJet forced the big players like British Airways to launch their own low-cost flights as their profits tumbled.

Now flights across the country have fallen and everyone has benefited apart from the boardroom fatcats who have been charging customers far too much for far too long.

Mr Haji-Ioannou describes himself as the Robin Hood of the airline industry and now his revolution is spreading to Gatwick.

And it's easy to see that all of us will benefit.

Heartless theft For more than a year Sea Cadets in Crawley raised money to help them buy a minibus.

They cleaned cars and arranged numerous sponsored events to buy the vehicle to get them out and about.

They took delivery of the vehicle less than a month ago and left it parked behind 8ft security gates.

But heartless thieves broke into their compound by dislodging a padlock and then stole the vehicle.

The matter has not been helped by their insurance company who are offering a paltry £100 to help pay for a new one.

It is a sad state of affairs when thieves have to stoop to stealing from children.

Royal appointment Royal watcher Jennifer Hawkins is such a fan of the monarchy she has spent a whole night camped outside the Queen Mother's home for a glimpse of her favourite royal on her 100th birthday.

The 51-year-old has been making the trip from her Worthing home every year.

Unlike her daughter, the Queen Mum only has one birthday a year, which is just as well for Jennifer.
