A burst water main outside Royal Sussex County hospital recently caused a section of Eastern Road to be closed to traffic for most of the day. This caused traffic to divert into St Georges Road, which is narrow at congested at the best of times.
To add to these problems someone at Brighton and Hove Bus Company decided the narrow section of St Georges Road between Paston Place and Eaton Place was suitable for two-way bus traffic and directed all services to be diverted through there.
The road is barely suitable for two-way car traffic and was not only severely congested but dangerous to such an extreme that I question the legality of such an insane decision.
It is a wonder nobody was killed.
Businesses were unable to take deliveries, custom was lost and the public endangered. Why did the police allow this and why wasn't there a police diversion on to Marine Parade to avoid the rat run route being used?
