Don't funk the debate on park and ride. The recent opinion column (Argus, July 28) supporting the park and ride scheme simply said we need it.
Hardly a sound argument for damaging the South Downs, a national park to be.
We have estimated park and ride at Waterhall could take nearly £1.5 million in passenger revenue away from existing bus services and possibly twice this. This is a huge amount of money and is likely to lead to further cuts in bus services to outlying areas.
If we want to tackle congestion and improve access to Brighton and Hove we need better public transport, not worse. Undermining these services will just encourage more people to give up on public transport and buy a car.
Public transport for all, not just public transport for car drivers, should be the aim of our strategy.
