I welcome Adam Trimingham's sober account of the local housing scene (Argus, July 24). The current crisis is due to the gold rush mentality of Brighton and Hove Council and the Place To Be campaign. It cannot be the place for everyone, whether it's a city or not.
I was disturbed by the not-so innovative scheme of housing local people in other towns. Which brand of resident deserves to become a refugee, rejected by The Place To Be? We cannot dump our problems on other areas and claim to celebrate diversity.
If the housing situation is a crisis, the council must treat it like one. Stop supporting unpopular schemes such as the Brighton station Sainsbury's supermarket proposal and develop affordable, urban housing as a top priority. Parties and festivals are all very well, but you have to go home sometimes - and everybody needs a home.
