In reply to G. Stroud who alluded to my letter in his comments on Scotsmen (Opinion, July 27), I certainly scored an own goal if I'm guilty of Anglophobia, as I'm an Anglo-Scot who has lived in southern England all his life!

My original point was essentially historical.

I haven't met the Scots he refers to who hate the English. Behind the tongue-in-cheek Sassenach-bashing and Jock-bashing there lies a great affection between the two counties these days.
