Duncan Pugh was Ringmer's hero as they claimed valuable points from a draw with Chiddingly.
Missing five players due to a wedding, the division one leaders had feared the worst.
But Pugh, bowling for the first time this year, claimed 6-30 as Chiddingly made 198-7 and he then chipped in with 25 not out as Ringmer replied with 189-5.
Simon Pugh added 55 and Ringmer might have won the game had opener Dave Peacock not been taken to hospital with a split lip.
For Chiddingly, Darren Howard scored 67 and John Grieveson 48.
Rye moved back up to third place despite having the worse of a draw at St Peters.
The hosts recovered from 54-4 to 219-8 thanks to a fifth-wicket stand of 115 between Matthew Knight (78) and Richard Dale (73).
Ally Russell hit 73 when Rye replied but the visitors were left holding on at 170-9 at the close, having lost their last four wickets for no runs.
The Boards were the only winners in the top division, with a club record for a total chased as they overhauled Ditchling's 254-5.
Johnny Coburn (118 not out) and Mark Hilfiker (51) were among the runs for Ditchling, but the home side reached their target with five wickets to spare thanks to James Wise (87 not out) and Ian Rippengal (57).
Martin Menezes scored 119 not out as Herstmonceux rattled up 205-6 at home to Fletching.
The visitors slumped to 42-6 but they battled back to secure a draw at 124-7 thanks to brothers Ali (50 not out) and Clive (29) Horscroft. Dale Mayhew took 5-44 for the home side.
John Reynolds struck a half century as bottom side Seaford totalled 190-9. Arthur Jennings claimed five wickets when Newick replied but the home side held on at 130-8.
Division two leaders Crowhurst Park had to settle for a draw on a lifeless pitch at Barcombe.
Victor Walcott (62) and Richard Coleman (51 not out) helped Park to 217-7 but Barcombe replied with 172-3 thanks to John Keeble (51 not out), Keith Savage (51) and Paul Coppard (46 not out).
A high scoring draw at Wadhurst saw Mick Foster hammer 107 as the hosts totalled 221-6.
In reply, Tunbridge Wells Borderers made 213-9 thanks largely to Chris Greenall (93) and Dean Serra (48).
Iden remain in the promotion picture after a seven-wicket win at home to Polegate & Stone Cross.
Geoff Hover (62) and Richard Mayfield (61) helped the visitors to 184-6 but Iden passed that thanks to David White (79) and Michael White (63 not out).
Lewes St Michael's claimed a five-wicket win at Heathfield Park. who were dismissed for 119 with Steve Oakes scoring 41 as Mark Jordan claimed 5-37.
Graham Hillier (59) led Ssaints home.
Division 3: Rotherfield 211-8 (Mark Bulmer 48, Dave Harman 40) beat Buxted Park 179 (Justin Anderson 43, Dave Harman 4-32); Newhaven 180-6 (Ray Wells 74, Dennis Ord 53, Chris Hart 6-36) drew with Mayfield 173-9 (Mick March 70, Chris Hart 64, Pete Tullett 4-55); Willingdon 144-5 drew with Hellingly 171-8 (Paul Wheatley 58, Dean Noakes 52, Mark Simmons 5-56); Pett 134 (Terry Jeffrey 5-56) lost to Little Common 135-5 (Terry Jeffrey 41no); Uckfield Anderida 102 (Steve Veal 42) lost to Rottingdean 104-5.
Division 4: Dicker 157-2 (Roland Gardner 65no, Paul Terrington 51) beat Robertsbridge 156 (Richard Hawthorne 73, Tim Tutt 5-32).
