Gerry Woolf, secretary of the Electric Vehicle Association of Great Britain, deserves congratulations on his efforts and dedication to the production and use of electric vehicles. He is rendering an important public service.
As an Independent parliamentary candidate for South Croydon in 1969/70, I made the point Britain could not afford oil imports or to waste money and fuel in traffic jams and recommended immediate funding of research into electric vehicles.
I further recommended immediate funding and research on converting water into fuel - first patented in Britain in the 1920s.
My reward was jeers and sneers from Conservative, Labour and Liberal politicians. Clearly, those involved in industries which stood to lose out were in no mood to have their influence reduced throughout the world.
The truth is political life and the political process is stitched up by politicians in the Tory, Labour and Liberal Democratic parties. Anyone not in their coteries is shut out and closed down.
