Horsham III captain Graham Carter blasted the British League fixtures list.

Carter insists it is "unacceptable" that his team have to make TWO 600-mile round trips to the Tregorrick Palace Club, St Austell, Cornwall, under the new system.

League organisers caused a row when they announced five weeks ago that they were running seven out of their eight divisions, which include Horsham 111, on four weekends instead of 14 separate matches for the coming season.

Carter said: "Making one trip to Cornwall is not unreasonable but making two 600-mile journeys is unacceptable, especially for teams further away than ourselves such as Fellows Cranleigh in Essex."

The Essex club have offered their four-table venue in place of one of the trips to Cornwall.

This is being considered by under-fire league chairman Keith Ponting who has threatened resignation twice but continues to try and make peace with the clubs.

l THE season opens at Solihull this weekend with an experimental tournament to give players a chance to test the new, larger 40mm ball and use the new scoring system of 11 points, best-of-five, instead of the traditional 21 points, best-of-three that has lasted since the sport began a century ago.

lTHE Brighton Newman senior and junior events in Hove next April should receive a new sponsorship.

But there are problems with the dates chosen as they a clash with the British League and county championships. Brighton chairman Brian Pettitt is working towards a possible changes of date.
