Latin lovers had a fantastic day at a street festival.

The close-knit community of Hanover in Brighton staged a fiesta with a Latin American theme.

The event started with a parish Mass at the Annunciation Church in Washington Street.

Then the community let its hair down to take part in a wide range of attractions including a procession, Forties-style jive dancing and line-dancing from the Southern Stompers.

There was also a street market, reggae and soul bands at the Dover Castle pub in Islingword Street, a flower festival, children's face-painting, an art workshop and juggling.

Crowds lined the streets to watch the procession from the Dover Castle to Coleman Street, with prizes awarded for the best children's costumes.

Hanover Day was started in 1996 and is one of the most popular community festivals in Brighton.

One visitor to the festival said: "It was a lovely day and everyone seemed to have a very good time.

"The service at the church was particularly good and it was wonderful to see people dancing in the streets.

"This is the first time I have been but I was very impressed with the way everybody threw themselves into it."
