I was intrigued to read in the Argus Business supplement of August 1 that Barclays Bank has chosen a Lewes firm to publicise its efforts in making its services available to people with disabilities.
In Peacehaven, all Barclays Bank has done is put a new lower cashpoint machine in the wall. If anyone in a wheelchair wants to pay money into the bank or wants to ask a question face to face with a bank employee they have to ring a bell, then transact their business on a busy pavement amid the noise and pollution of the A259!
This bank made £1.8bn profit in the last year, so surely it can reinvest some of the profit its customers have made for it in making their buildings accessible to people in wheelchairs and those with pushchairs.
