I would like to support the plea of GMB organiser Gary Smith (no relation) for readers not to take out on his members the frustration and annoyance they feel at the current breakdown in refuse collection (Opinion, Argus 12).
Nor of course should they under any circumstances write letters of complaint to the leader of Brighton and Hove Council (Lynette Gwyn-Jones, c/o Town Hall, Bartholomew Square, BN1 1JP) in which they might be tempted to draw attention to the recent increases in council tax and councillors' allowances. She and other executive members must be far too busy to bother with such matters.
Still less should they take direct action, such as dumping bags of uncollected rubbish at either Brighton (see above) or Hove (Church Road) Town Hall; or at SITA offices (Upper Holligndean Road). That would be quite deplorable, as, indeed, would withholding council tax till the problem had been addressed.
