Sussex batsmen Toby Peirce and Wasim Khan have played their last games for the county.
They were released today, six weeks before their contracts expire.
Khan, who joined the county three years ago, played just two Championship matches this season and is hopeful of joining a new club.
Peirce is quitting the game altogether and hopes to start a career in the wine trade.
Coach Peter Moores said: "The timing may seem funny with three important games left but the chances of either Wasim or Toby playing again this season were limited.
"We did not want to string them along so this way they have more time to sort out their futures."
Perice has played in every Championship match since July 1997 but retires with a career average of less than 25.
Khan, who came to the club from Warwickshire, had fewer chances and admitted he was disappointed he did not finish his career at Hove.
He said: "I am saddened because I do not feel I got the opportunities to succeed which other players have had."
Michael Yardy will open the innings when he makes his Championship debut against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay today. Will House is back in the side for only his third Championship match.
Sussex (probable): Yardy, Montgomerie, Adams, Cottey, House, Martin-Jenkins, Rashid, Wilton, Kirtley, Lewry, Robinson.
