For the last two Sundays I have taken an early-morning walk through the town and along the seafront. I have been appalled at the amount of litter left on our beaches.
What is the point in an award for clean bathing water if the beach looks like a rubbish tip?
We need much larger seagull-proof bins in the summer to cope with this problem. We also need to educate our young people to take their litter home if the bins are full.
Perhaps we should introduce a litter tax (say 50p per transaction) on anything bought in off-licences or takeaways after 8pm on a Friday or Saturday.
