Weekly fireworks displays over the Palace Pier finished at the weekend - but residents are campaigning to stop them for good.
On Sunday the last firecrackers and rockets fizzled out in the Brighton landmark's final display of the summer.
Now residents have started a petition to try to prevent them from returning.
Organiser Rena Collins, of Dorset Gardens, Kemp Town, said she hoped all residents fed up with noise from the pier's weekend festivities would sign it.
Ms Collins said: "I hope they don't ever have the fireworks again. It is like a war zone and the explosions can be heard up to two miles away."
Dog owner Trevor Scoble, of Madeira Place, said loud bangs from the weekly displays had frightened pets and upset residents, particularly the elderly.
Now he fears the displays, launched from a barge moored off the pier, could return next year.
He said: "The fireworks have been relentless and they just set them off without any consideration for the residents, who often stop me in the street to complain about them.
Upset "When the fireworks start, my dog gets upset and cowers under the chair trying to get away."
Marie Henley, marketing manager at the pier, said: "We have had several calls from people thanking us for the fireworks and few complaints.
"At the moment we have no plans to bring them back next year but I would not like to rule it out completely."
The displays may be over but Mr Scoble still wants residents to complain to noise watchdogs at Brighton and Hove Council.
A council spokeswoman said a handful of people had complained but the council had decided not to take action because the displays were only 12 minutes long and started at 10pm.
She said: "We would welcome any comments from the public that would give us something to discuss with the pier if they do want to put on the displays again."
Anyone wishing to sign the petition can phone Ms Collins on 01273 699500.
