A swimming pool will close in January for 18 months, it has been confirmed.
Horsham Council is planning the closure so a new £13 million pool can be built on the same site in Horsham Park.
The council had hoped to keep the complex open by building its replacement in two phases.
But now the council has decided to build the new pool in one go to shave about £2 million off the cost.
Swimmers will have to go to other towns until the new complex opens, probably in June 2002.
Meanwhile, the council has pledged to lay on buses to other pools for youngsters during school holidays.
The new pool will have spectator accommodation, a separate learner pool and an all-year outdoor swimming area.
