When I was a regular visitor to Brighton about two years ago, I frequently noted the large amount of rubbish in the town. Gradually the situation seemed to improve.
The last few months, however, have seen a rapid deterioration in many parts of the town, as everyone knows.
My home town, Wolverhampton, has a wheelie bin system in operation and, if the cleanliness of the streets is a factor in determining city status, it will win hands down!
I know such a system is not practical in Brighton with its many flats and terraced houses but surely now, in the the 21st Century, there must be a way to improve things.
If anyone can come up with a cheap seagull/fox/ cat/dog/rat-proof material for bin bags, they stand to make a fortune.
Overriding all this is the fact the people of Brighton must really want a clean town and the Sita workforce must really want to do its job well.
The only long-term solution is recycling and I would like to see Brighton and Hove Council put much more effort and money into advertising, promoting and encouraging this practice.
