I was disappointed to read Norman McLeod's comments regarding Surf 107.2's range of listening choice (Opinion, August 31). I am surprised Mr McLeod believes the station has narrowed the service it offers listeners.
Recent adjustments to the schedule saw three shows replaced with new programmes. These changes reflect trends in both local listening and music preferences. Surf continues to programme more than 50 hours of specialist music per week, more than any other station of its kind in the UK. All of these programmes are produced by local talent.
Since its launch, Surf has stayed true to its original promise of continuing to grow and develop in order to deliver a listening alternative for Brighton, Hove and Worthing. Recent industry figures showed Surf listeners are more loyal than ever. Perhaps the tendency of local competition to bend to the Surf tune is a further measure of the station's success.
During the past two and a half years Surf has become a permanent part of the local landscape. The station will continue to grow, serving local people and championing local talent as the only listening alternative exclusively dedicated to this area.
