An elderly woman was dragged along the street after refusing to give in to a bag snatcher.
The woman was walking along Croft Road in Hastings at 1.40pm when she was approached by a youth who grabbed her handbag.
After refusing to let go she was dragged 10ft along the road before the attacker fled with the handbag, which contained an undisclosed sum of cash.
The woman, who suffered minor injuries, was cared for by local residents before an ambulance arrived and the woman was treated at the Conquest Hospital, said a Sussex Police spokesman.
The black, over-the-shoulder handbag was later found in Halton Terrace with money missing.
The attacker is described as about 18 years old with fair hair and a slight build.
He was wearing trousers and a shirt thought to be khaki-coloured.
