After being reassured at the planning stage of the new, supposedly state of the art, Shoreham power station that it would emit merely a "haze", I was alarmed to see a plume of smoke (later described as steam) rising from it as I walked along the coast road at Fishersgate.
The smell of gas was overpowering and, with millions of gallons of petrol and high voltage cables within yards of each other, it wasn't surprising worried residents wasted no time in contacting the local fire station.
With this in mind, those responsible for placing boxes at the top of the chimney for peregrine falcons to inhabit (Argus, September 1) may consider it is worth adding carrots, onions and a few potatoes, along with sage and onion stuffing! It is hard to imagine any peregrines actually surviving there or wishing to live in this environment.
No doubt we will be told the emissions were within safe levels or were simply teething problems.
