Centrica, part of the former British Gas, has posted a huge jump in half-year profits.
The company said it will continue to develop its products and services in the UK and overseas.
The group, which owns the AA roadside service and Goldfish credit card as well as supplying gas and electricity under the British Gas and Scottish Gas brands, said it would carry on with its programme of investment in its UK services.
It is launching a package of products through its telecoms business, including fixed-line, mobile and internet services, and also intends to expand its financial services.
The group is also focused on expanding internationally and plans to build on its recent acquisition of Direct Energy in Canada, which gave it access to the U.S. and Canadian market.
Chairman Sir Michael Perry said: "Our strategy continues to be one of growth."
Pre-tax profits for the six months to June 30 were £373 million, up from £220 million last time. Turnover was £4.7 billion against £3.9 billion last time.
The main drivers of the profits increase were lower unit costs of gas and transportation and higher non-residential gas selling prices. Growth in its electricity customer base also helped boost figures.
Figures were also increased by inclusion of results from the recently-acquired AA business.
The group added it expected to achieve "satisfactory progress" for the year as a whole. Shareholders will pick up an interim 1.1p dividend.
