Max Harris, the England international from Ham Manor, has turned pro.

He is currently playing in the European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre.

Max, three times Sussex champion, has only just graduated with honours from North Carolina University.

On receiving a sponsors' invitation to play in Switzerland, he lost no time in accepting and already has a manager.

His next step will be attempting to win a US Tour card.

Max, 22, went to university on a golf scholarship to study PE and sports science four years ago.

He knew at the beginning of his studies that becoming a pro was a prime option.

"Hopefully, that's what I'll do in a couple of years,"he told me in 1998 after winning the Sussex Amateur for the third time.

But not included in the script was graduating with distinction and being elected to the university's hall of fame where his picture, among others, will hang in perpetuity.
