The recent report on house building suggests a number of laudable aims and objectives, but makes no mention as to where these high standards of architecture will be erected (Argus, September 2).
The report talks of the danger of town cramming, but also informs us there are 5,500 vacant dwellings in Brighton.
Surely, our planners should make these a top priority. Here is a challenge for architects: Make these mostly run-down properties habitable again.
Taking a longer view, it is quite ridiculous to plan for more new housing estates, however beautiful, in towns located between the downs and the sea. There comes a point when we, like Jersey and Guernsey before us, have to say enough is enough. We are full up.
