A rare chance to glimpse the new Wembley Stadium model is being offered at a football match in aid of the Argus Appeal.

The model will be put on display for the first time outside London at Withdean Stadium when Labour MPs take on a political journalists XI.

The match, which coincides with the start of the Labour party conference on September 24, is being organised by Hove MP Ivor Caplin in aid of the appeal, which is supported by Legal and General.

Mr Caplin's 15-month-old son, Josh, will be one of the mascots in an Albion strip.

The MPs are being trained by former Northern Ireland boss Lawrie McMenemy.

Mr Caplin said: "Under Lawrie we have won our last three games against the Czech Republic parliamentary team, the football administrators and a side from the North-East, so we are looking in great shape.

"We are in training again hoping to make it four wins out of four. We always aim to win."

A total of £2,000 has already been raised for the appeal through the event which will be handed over before the game kicks off.

Mr Caplin added: "We invited organisations to sponsor our game. Wembley Stadium did that and donated £2,000.

"It is going to be a great game. It is not just open to conference delegates but to any Albion fans wanting to see how the future of Wembley Stadium will look."

Appeal organisers are confident the day, which is free, will prove a success for the campaign, which has helped needy people across Sussex since 1958.

The model will be on display in the stadium's North Stand from 10am to 1.45pm. Kick off will be at 10.50am. Refreshments, by King Catering, will on offer before the match.start of the Labour party conference on September 24, is being organised by Hove MP Ivor Caplin in aid of the appeal, which is supported by Legal and General.
