It's full steam ahead at Shoreham Power Station.
The new gas-fired power station, on the site of the old Brighton B station, will generate power for the first time when it is connected to the National Grid on Friday.
The gas turbines are in operation now, generating heat that boils water to create the necessary steam.
Huge clouds of steam could be seen billowing over the site yesterday as the turbines heated up.
Richard Hatton, South Coast Power's site manager, said: "Normally, the steam would be used to turn a turbine, but until it's ready, the steam is used to clean the new pipeworks.
"Over the next week, this process should be finished, and after that, there won't be any steam visible. This is normal practice when a power station starts up."
The station is due to become fully operational in December.
