I was disappointed to read about the proposed closure of the paddling pool on the seafront. Brighton and Hove Council is going to replace it with a half-hearted attempt at a play area for children.
But has anyone thought to ask the kids if they want a play area as opposed to the paddling pool? The play area will get no more use in the winter months than the paddling pool, but I'm sure the pool is enjoyed by a greater number of kids than a play area ever will be. Why not keep the pool and add a play area as well?
The expense of the play area is not so great compared to the money spent on facilities for drug and alcohol rehabilitation in Brighton. I think the kids are more important.
