Mark Cartwright is staying with Albion for the rest of the season.

The goalkeeper agreed a permanent move yesterday following the end of his month on loan from Wrexham.

Manager Micky Adams said: "Mark has showed he is a more than capable keeper and we are pleased to have him.

"His confidence is growing along with the team."

The Argus revealed on Tuesday that Cartwright was ready to remain as Albion's No. 1. The only question mark was the length of the deal for the 27-year-old.

"The good thing about Mark is that he has demonstrated money is not his motivation," said Adams. "That doesn't mean he hasn't been given a good deal.

"He wanted a two-year contract, but he wants to be part of the potential of the place, so he was happy to go along with what we offered."

Cartwright will be hoping to follow up his first clean sheet at Blackpool on Tuesday with another against second-placed Cheltenham at Withdean tomorrow.

Striker Lee Steele, signed in the summer on a free transfer from Shrewsbury under the Bosman ruling, is back in the frame.

Steele has been sidelined since sustaining a persistent ankle injury as a substitute in Albion's opening day defeat at Southend.

Adams watched him play a full 90 minutes in a reserve team friendly against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

"He came through that well," Adams said. "He is back in contention."

Nathan Jones, on target twice in Albion's last home game against Torquay, netted the last away goal conceded by Steve Cotterill's strapping Cheltenham side.

That was at the end of last season when Jones was still with Southend.

"I am full of admiration for Cheltenham and their manager," Adams added. "He has put together a big, strong and physical side which is doing very well again.

"That is not a fluke. I see them as one of the favourites."
